The
Collaboration of Each piece of ceramic in this collaborative collection was hand-thrown by John Jenkins. The pieces were then given to Sandy Vincent as green ware, and she completed the surface design through hand painting and firing. "Clay, in its many forms and creative force, has
influenced people throughout time. It has connected every culture to the
part of the planet they inhabit. As time passes for each culture, the
ceramics of that culture have provided priceless information regarding
the lifestyles and traditions of the people. Individual expressions in
ceramics have grown from the purely functional to functional and/or artistic
pottery. "It was with excitement and anticipation that I agreed
to create and produce the surface decoration on these collaborative ceramic
pieces. I was immediately struck by the strength and passion evidenced
in John Jenkins' sturdy forms, and I thereby developed my goal of decorating
each piece individually with my own passion for all things organic. My
objective was to enhance and complete the originality of each piece with
glazes and under glazes, and through color and design to, hopefully, endue
each form with its own free flowing, painterly quality. Many of my designs
began as my own paintings on canvas and were then translated, almost in
transparent watercolor style, to the ceramic surface.
