Richard Garrison’s work combines paint and collage materials on wood panels and focuses on the expressive qualities of the human figure. Spontaneity and improvisation are the most important part of Richard Garrison’s working method, as they are to Jazz musicians, Garrison’s most popular subject matter. The artist says that he not only strives to represent the people who play Jazz music, but also tries to express how he feels when he listens to their music. Garrison received his Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of North Carolina.
