KRISTIN GIBSON
Since
as early as I can remember I've explored the process of
creating art. Embracing it as an outlet for finding myself – or
losing myself – in a swirl of paint or box or colors. Even as I work
today, I recall sitting on a stool in "Miss Pelly's" studio,
doing
perspective drawings or a linoleum cut of a box turtle. The joy of
the unexpected, the opportunity for learning and the chance to get
messy that began as a child are still the reasons I paint everyday.
My inspiration
begins with a penchant for mixing color and pattern.
Organic shapes of fruit, flowers, vegetables are a jumping off point
to infuse with memories suggested by a grandmothers teapot, a vintage
fabric, a first pair of eyeglasses.
My work becomes
a glimpse into my daily life, perhaps anyone's daily
life. A quiet inner space that exists for the duration I paint it.
This becoming the place I am finding my authentic voice and most
sophisticated work. This the place I seek to express in color and form.
