Gayle Stott Lowry is most well known for her paintings of interior spaces, some occupied, some unoccupied, but always with a symbolic use of light. She tries to capture “moments in existence, unseen by the external world.” Lowry says that the “voyeuristic, forbidden quality of the scenes creates curiosity, yet uncertainty in the viewer.” The viewer is able to add their own story line to the images in the paintings. Lowry studied art at East Carolina University and has pursued additional study with Wolf Kahn and Sidney Goodman.
