City Art Gallery celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a weeklong exhibition of artistically created Bras and Bodices, Corsets and Torsos. The goal of the exhibition is to bring attention and awareness to breast cancer as a primary women's health issue. The hope is that through artistic creativity and visual enjoyment of the collection, people will be inspired to embrace and support women and families affected by the disease. Proceeds from sales from the exhibition will be donated to Breast Cancer Resource Directory of North Carolina. The Directory "provides breast cancer patients, survivors, their families and healthcare providers with free, comprehensive information, support and resources to help them through the breast cancer experience."** The opening reception will be held at City Art Gallery on October 26, 2005 and from 6pm until 8pm, with a live auction of one piece at 7pm, and will run through October 31.
This event is the first of its kind in Eastern North Carolina and is being generously sponsored by Carolina Breast & Oncologic Surgery (Nizar Habal, MD), Carolina Radiation Medicine, PA (Gordon Koltis, MD & Andrej Hnatov, MD), Physicians East, PA (Hale H. Stephenson, MD, President) and Morgan Printers, Inc. (Jack Morgan, Jr., President). Through the support of these donors, the time and efforts of several artists, and the exhibition and sale of these creations by City Art Gallery, many affected women will receive resources to support their various needs while navigating the journey through breast cancer. **quoted from Jamie Konarski Davidson Note: The exhibition is inspired by the original concept of The Way to Women's Wellness Foundation, a grass-roots organization founded in Pennsylvania in 2003. |
